Oliseh lacks experience to manage Eagles – Izilein

Godwin Izilein has expressed his surprise that the Nigeria Football Federation decided to appoint Sunday Oliseh as the new manager of Super Eagles. Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations winner Oliseh last week penned a N5m-a-month deal with the NFF to manage the Eagles for three years, following the sacking of Stephen Keshi, after the ex-Togo manager breached his contract by applying for the vacant Ivory Coast coaching role. And ex-Golden Eaglets coach Izilein condemned Oliseh’s appointment, saying the ex-Ajax player, who has only managed Royal Cercle Sportif Vervietois, shouldn’t have been given the job. Oliseh coached the Belgian third division outfit from 2008 to 2009. ADVERTISEMENT Izilein expressed doubts about the future of the Eagles under Oliseh, saying the NFF should have appointed an experienced coach to manage the team after sacking Keshi. “Oliseh is a newcomer. He has no experience in coaching,” the former Sharks manager, who guided the Super Falcons to their fourth African Women’s Championship glory in South Africa in 2004, told our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday. “You must have experience to manage the national team. Oliseh doesn’t have experience in coaching. “Coaching is different from playing the game. Yes, he was a good player. But he has not coached a big team to gain experience. You can’t compare a professor to a Lecturer 1 in the university. It’s the same with coaching.” Izilein lamented Oliseh would earn a much higher monthly salary than the NFF Technical Director Shaibu Amodu. Former Eagles coach Amodu, who was confirmed as the NFF Technical Director recently, is said to be earning N800,000 monthly. Izilein frowned upon the pay gap between Oliseh and Amodu, saying “Amodu should earn more than coaches under him”. “I’m shocked to hear that Oliseh will earn far more than Amodu,” the ex-Nigeria attacker said. “As the technical director of the NFF, Amodu should be paid very well to enable him to concentrate on his job. “He oversees the training of the coaches, including that of the Super Eagles coach. It’s a taxing job and he should be treated with respect. “Amodu has done a lot for the country. He’s an experienced coach and he has an impressive track record as coach. “The NFF should increase his pay. In fact, Amodu should earn more than Oliseh.”
