I come from the underground. I am never comfortable in the middle of
the stream, flowing in the same direction as everyone else. I think
people assume that’s where I want to be, famous for being famous,
because as part of what I do there is a high level of showing off. But
my instinct is always to resist the pull of the obvious. It’s not easy.
Trends come along and people say, ‘Follow that trend’. There’s a lot of that around at the moment: ‘Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.’ I cannot be like them – except to the extent that they are already being like me.
I
have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people
assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare,
the fact that it was new, not for the money, and too many times I was
the first, not the beneficiary.
Rihanna… she does the body-painting thing I did with Keith Haring,
but where he painted directly on my body, she wears a painted bodysuit.
That’s the difference. Mine is on skin; she puts a barrier between the
paint and her skin. I don’t even know if she knows that what she’s doing
comes from me, but I bet you the people styling her know. They know the
history.

Angry mob burn suspected robber alive in Port Harcourt
According to a video posted by an eyewitness, this suspected thief was burnt alive by an angry mob in Port Harcourt.
In the graphic video, the young man who was well and truly beaten before being set ablaze,
is heard screaming the name of Jesus several times and begging for his
life to be spared but the crowd will have none of that as they made sure
he was set on fire.
It was gathered by the person
who posted the video that the man was a member of a robbery gang that
attacked the community but was the unlucky one to be nabbed while the
others managed to escape.
Instead of handing him over to the police, the mob took the laws into their hands and meted out instant jungle justice on him.

Japan floods: City of Joso hit by 'unprecedented' rain
Widespread flooding and landslides in north-east Japan have forced more than 90,000 people to abandon their homes.
The
city of Joso, north of the capital, Tokyo, was hit by a wall of water
after the Kinugawa River burst its banks. Helicopter rescue teams have
been plucking people from rooftops. One person has been reported missing in the region and at least 12 are injured.
The rains come a day after a tropical storm brought winds of up to 125km/h (78mph) to central Aichi prefecture.
"These heavy rains are unprecedented. We can say this is an abnormal situation and there is imminent serious danger," the chief forecaster at the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Takuya Deshimaru, said on Thursday.
The hardest-hit areas have been Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures. Japan's Meteorological Agency had put both regions on its highest level of alert.
VFILES
Perhaps more than ever, tonight’s VFiles show pushed fashion decency to its very limit, then went further. In front of an adoring, rambunctious crowd of colorfully attired demimonde-dwellers bobbing to dubstep, courtesy of DJ A-Trak, not to mention all who watched on Periscope and tweeted furiously, five young designers or collectives took the runway with abandon. They were the chosen ones, as selected online by an international voting public. “We’re breaking stereotypes,” said founder Julie-Anne Quay backstage. “These brave kids, who are 22 and under, represent the next generation of tastemakers, the new youth culture."
The most compelling of the bunch, conceptually speaking, was Feng Chen Wang. Born in Beijing and fresh out of fashion college in Britain, she described the very somber basis for her collection, learning of her father’s cancer diagnosis last year and taking a deep interest in the process of recovery, even observing the surgery firsthand in the operating room. As bleak as it sounds, and rather contrary to her chirpy demeanor,
she made the most of the bad situation, crafting clothes bursting with outsized organ shapes and zippers evoking incisions. Some models wore blood bags that dripped a black liquid (not blood) into plastic tubes spelling out the words Love and Life.
David Ferreira, based in London, brought together his favorite film, Orlando, and Empress Dowager Cixi of nineteenth-century China. As it happened, some of the pieces ended up looking remarkably similar to Rihanna’s yellow stunner, by Guo Pei, at this year’s Met Gala. (Incidentally, Rihanna has sported previous VFiles designers to various events.) Ferreira said he combined elements of European couture with historical Chinese dress. He mentioned foot-binding, but it was surely only coincidence that one model tumbled twice, ripping off her shoes each time and continuing barefoot to thunderous applause.
Migrant crisis: Denmark-Germany rail links suspended
Denmark has suspended all rail links with Germany after police stopped hundreds of migrants at the border.
Danish
police also closed a motorway between the two countries when some
asylum seekers began walking north after being forced off a train. They say their destination is Sweden.
As the EU struggles with a major migrant crisis, the European Commission has proposed that 120,000 additional asylum seekers should be shared out between members, using binding quotas.
Denmark's DSB rail operator said trains to and from Germany had been suspended for an indefinite period because of exceptional passport checks.

SSS Gets List of New Ministers from Buhari, Begins Screening
The Department of State Services has commenced the screening of
ministerial nominees sent to the agency by President Muhammadu Buhari.
No fewer than 20 nominees had already been vetted by the DSS.
The President was said to have sent to the agency a total of 36 names of would-be ministers for checks.
The identities of nominees were top secret before now. But some of the expected names made the list.
There will be some new names from the North and the South-West. The South East will get known names of the few who supported Buhari from the geo-political zone.
Some of the names on the list included those who worked with Buhari when he was in the military and during his stint as the chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, as well as in politics.
Investigations by PUNCH showed that the screening process by the DSS involved conducting background checks on the careers of the nominees and operatives were also checking for records of the nominees with anti-graft and security agencies.

How Walking In Nature Changes The Brain
The majority of people in the Western
world live in busy, congested cities. Many of us have been completely
cut off from nature in our day-to-day lives, especially compared to the
generations before us. There have been many studies showing that city
dwellers are much more likely to suffer from depression and other forms
of anxiety than people who live in more natural, rural areas.
This may seem obvious to some, since the
feeling we get from going for a walk through a park or forest, going
camping, or just getting out of the city in general is so refreshing and
generally very relaxing. But new research is proving just how important
getting out of the city and into nature can be for our mental and
physical well-being.

Seun Akinlosotu: Excuse Me, Can I Have Your Number?
Excuse me, can I have your number?
No, this is not a guy asking for a girl’s number. It’s the girl asking for a guy’s number. Yeah…yea…. I see ladies doing taka sufe over
their heads saying God forbid. Me, ask a guy for his number? From the
days of Adam, a man goes after a woman not the other way around.
Ehn Ehn… remain there until you are 50 with cobwebs down there, albeit with your dignity intact. We shall readdress this issue at that time and you can tell me if you still feel the same way.
Ehn Ehn… remain there until you are 50 with cobwebs down there, albeit with your dignity intact. We shall readdress this issue at that time and you can tell me if you still feel the same way.
I just had a discussion at lunch with my friends about a girl toasting
a guy. I love seeing people come together in a healthy relationship and
honestly, I don’t even care anymore how it happens. It is the end
result of an issue that matters, not the beginning.
When
I host an event, I make it a point of duty to single out the ladies,
and tell them to shine their eyes for they are not there to eat jollof
rice only. Stop waiting for the boys to initiate a conversation, because
by the time he figures which girl is the prettiest or most attractive
in the room the party will be over. Can I please use this medium to beg
all those people who handle lightening at events… your lights are
getting darker and darker and making it impossible for the men to see
the girls. Please there is enough confusion already with the wigs,
makeup, false butt etc., don’t compound their problems abeg. Let there be correct light so they can see the girls.
This
issue of who should ask who out is always going to be a bone of
contention. Even 50 years from now I suspect my feminists and convenient
traditionalists would frown upon it. I personally have grown out of
that mindset and I really don’t see anything wrong with it.

The anti-corruption campaign of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led

My Female Friend Sleeping With My Father
How would you feel if your dad slept with your best friend? It happens
all of the time but it’s no fun when you’re at the receiving end. “To
say that my father, a great raconteur, often put on a show for my female
friends would be an understatement.
"From the moment they stepped through the door, he would turn on the charm, directing all his wit and humour in their direction. Usually, it was me who
basked in the glow of his unfailing good nature and I knew how special it made me feel. But when friends came over, his spotlight automatically beamed on them," recalled Uchenna, now in her 40s and with her own family.
