Foreign athletes arrive for Warri Relays

Athletes representing the United States, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Great Britain have arrived in Warri, Delta State for the Warri Relays and the Confederation of African Athletics Grand Prix holding on Friday. This event, which has a CAA Golden Label, is organised by the Delta State Government, the Athletic Federation of Nigeria and Soloo Sports Management and Marketing. The CAA Grand Prix will feature the men’s 100m, 400m, long jump, triple jump, 400m hurdle and 800m, while the women’s category will include the 100m and 400m, 100m hurdles, long jump, 400m hurdle, 800m. Former world and Olympic champion Maurice Green, who acts as coordinator of the Nigeria relay team, arrived in Warri on Tuesday alongside top Nigerian athletes, which included Olivia Ekpone and Gloria Asumnu. Athletes from Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Gambia, Mozambique, Senegal and Cameroon are still expected to arrive today for the event. The Warri Relays will be followed by the All Nigeria/Cross River Athletics Championships scheduled to hold in Calabar next week. The national championships will serve as trials for the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, in September.
