Barack Obama threatens economic sanctions if South Sudan civil war deal not reached

 
Barack Obama, the US president, has warned that there is “no time to wait” to end the civil war in South Sudan, threatening economic sanctions and arms blockades if the two parties cannot reach a deal.
Mr Obama said that “stubborn” president Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar were failing to look out for the best interests of their people, at least 50,000 of whom have been killed and a further one million displaced by 19 months of conflict.

Buhari's New Ministers Have Started Positioning Things

In an effort to commence the implementation and actualization of the Change Agenda of the government of the day, most of the newly appointed ministers inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari last Wednesday as Federal Executive Council members have already hit the ground running.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has promised that his ministry would amongst other things ensure that roads are designed and built in such a way they would stand the test of time.
The minister, who also assured Nigerians of steady power supply, insisted that he would “design and build roads and houses that will stand the test of time. We want to know if some of those problems are man-made or systemic”.

Pastor of Lord’s Chosen Church Jailed for Smuggling Cocaine

The bad things people do all because of fast money! A Nigerian pastor, Chukwudi Okechukwu, who preaches under the umbrella of the popular Lord Chosen Church of Nigeria in Tanzania, has reportedly bagged a 30-year jail term after he was convicted of smuggling cocaine worth Sh3.1billion.

According to reports, Pastor Okechukwu, who Anti-narcotics police believe is one of the top members of a drug syndicate operating in Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa, was jailed alongside a South African man, Stan Hycent and a Pakistani, Shoaib Mohammad Ayazi, over the same offence

Andre Ayew, Yaya Toure and 3 others nominated for BBC African footballer of the year award

Swansea City forward Andre Ayew was on Saturday morning named as one of five players shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 BBC African Footballer of the Year award and this year it seems he is the overwhelming favorite for the award. Algeria's Yacine Brahimi, the 2014 winner, is on the shortlist along with Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ghanaian Andre Ayew, Senegal's Sadio Mane and Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast.

The winner will be decided by African football fans, who have until 18:00 GMT on 30 November to vote for their choice. Andre Ayew won the award in 2011 with Yaya Toure also winning it in 2013.

The eventual winner will be announced on December 11 2015.
